Let’s talk 𝑟𝑒𝑡𝑖𝑛𝑜𝑙!⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Retinol is a form of vitamin A that’s suitable for the skin. It belongs to a group of vitamin A derivatives, known as retinoids.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Retinol has multiple uses. It can be used to combat conditions like acne and can target areas of pigmentation. It can also reduce signs of aging and sun damage by speeding up your skin cell cycle as your skin cell cycle naturally slows down with aging.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Some retinoids, can be bought over the counter while others, such as tretinoin, are more powerful and can only be prescribed by a doctor or purchased in a medical clinic! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
My favorite retinol product (which I’m holding in this photo) is Retivance by Obagi! The main ingredient in this product is RETINALDEHYDE which is a rare form of vitamin A that is even more powerful than retinol.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
A lot of people use retinol wrong or do not use it at all, because of the irritating side effects such as redness or dryness it may cause while the skin is getting use to its power.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Retivance however, the key difference is that retinaldehyde is much closer in power to retinoic acid, but WITHOUT the infamous side effects. This product can be tolerated every other night or every night and is great for preventing acne and promoting skin cell turnover.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
The next step up (which we also carry @modernmedstl ) is tretinoin. Tretinoin is a prescription-strength topical cream or gel used mainly to treat acne, sun-damaged skin, and fine wrinkles.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
It may sound counterintuitive, but tretinoin works by irritating the skin. Tretinoin is able to speed up the life cycle of skin cells. It makes them divide faster and die faster, so newer, healthier cells can take their place. It can be a little harsh for some patients and should be used with caution! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
